## Frequently asked questions

- What is an e-cigarette? An e-cigarette, or vape, is a battery-powered device that heats a liquid, called e-liquid, into an aerosol that you inhale. Most e-liquids contain nicotine.
- How old do I have to be to buy? 21. Federal and Tennessee law set the minimum age at 21, and we check a valid photo ID every time, even if you look older.
- What is in e-liquid? Usually propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), flavorings and, in most cases, nicotine. Our staff can explain PG and VG blends and the difference between freebase and nicotine-salt liquids.
- Is vaping safe? No tobacco or nicotine product is safe, and nicotine is addictive. Research on vaping, including its long-term effects, is still going on. To see what public health agencies have said, visit our Research page, which quotes them directly and links to each source.
- Can e-cigarettes help me quit smoking? No vapor product sold in our shops is approved by the FDA as a quit-smoking aid. If you want help quitting, talk with your doctor or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
- Are vapor products regulated? Yes. The FDA has regulated e-cigarettes and e-liquids as tobacco products since 2016. Tennessee also has its own rules, including a directory of vapor products that may be sold in the state. TSFA keeps track of these rules. See our Advocacy page.
- Can I vape anywhere? It depends on Tennessee law and on the business. Many businesses don’t allow vaping inside, and that is their right. When in doubt, ask first.
- Do you price match? Find a lower price on the same item, in stock at a local shop and not on sale, and we will match it. It can’t be combined with other discounts or promotions. Ask at the counter for details.
- Why don’t you list brands or prices online? Our selection changes often. Call the shop nearest you or stop in, and we’ll tell you what is on the shelf today.
- Can you help me set up my device? Yes. Every shop will help you choose a setup, fill and prime it, and show you how to care for it.
